Outsider Factory, “+8 Time Zone”: The Research Project for Oral Histories & Community Art in Three Towns of Archipelago Southeast Asia (Talk in Taipei)

奧賽德工廠於2016年策畫了一場研究計畫，前往三座位於島嶼東南亞的城市：菲律賓南部民答那峨的達沃、東馬來西亞沙巴州的亞庇以及印尼蘇拉威西島的望加錫。這三座城市都偏離國際上熟悉的首都及國際城市，但卻乘載著豐富的在地文化及發展當代藝術的潛力。在地圖上，這三座城市不僅位於同一時區，而且非常靠近彼此；然而因為分屬不同的殖民政權，而走上了截然不同的歷史道路。奧賽德工廠試圖透過此次的探勘研究計畫，集結年輕策展人、藝術家及歷史學者，共同前往島嶼東南亞三城研究其文化、現代史及藝術社群。並將以此次的研究成果，作為未來策畫跨島聯展的基礎。

In 2016, Outsiders Factory curate a research project to 3 towns in Archipelago Southeast Asia: Davao in South Philippines’ Mindanao Island, Kota Kinabalu in East Malaysia’s Sabah State and Makassar in Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island. These 3 towns are far away from internationally recognized capitals and big cities. However, these 3 towns are the incubator of rich local culture and full of potential for contemporary art development. These 3 towns are not only belong to the same time zone, but also near to each other on the map. However, because 3 different colonial powers occupy these 3 towns, therefore they divide into 3 different historical paths. Outsiders Factory use this project as a chance to gather young curators, artists and historian to visit these 3 archipelago towns, for research their culture, modern histories and artistic communities. Outsiders Factory also look forward to use this research project as the fundaments to develop the inter-insular exhibition in the near future.
